Center for Development Policy and Management


The Centre for Development Policy & Management (CDPM) has the following broad objectives:

  • To serve as a research and discussion forum on topical issues;
  • To help policymakers, civil society, the general public and members of the IILM Graduate School of Management family
    understand and address critical issues in a changing world;
  • To identify options and opportunities for accelerating progress in priority sectors for India's development
  • To act as a catalyst in promoting innovative ideas and implementing them.

Important issues raised in these discussions are taken up by the CDPM utilizing the academic resources of the IILM Graduate School of Management as well as outside expertise, for further study, research and development as necessary. The results of all such exercises are made available to opinion and decision makers through publications or other appropriate mediums.


Recent Discussions:

  • “Asia’s Energy Security”, addressed by the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj, Shri Mani Shankar
    Aiyar. There were observations from Ambassador Sun Yunxi of China and High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Liyakat Ali
    Choudhary. It was followed by a wide briefing by Shri Talmeez Ahmad, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and
    Natural Gas.
  • “Human Security: Incoherent Concept or Policy Template” in 2006 – the keynote speaker was Prof. Ramesh Thakur
    Senior Vice Rector of the United Nations University, Tokyo and Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations. The
    meeting was chaired by Prof. Muchkund Dubey, former Foreign Secretary and President of Council for Social
    Development, New Delhi.
  • "Elections and Quality of Democracy" chaired by Dr. P.C. Alexander, on April 13, 2004. The other speakers were Dr.
    G.V.G. Krishnamurthy, former Election Commissioner and Dr. Subash Kashyap, Secretary General of Lok Sabha.
  • "Innovative Approaches to Rural Development and Panchayati Raj", chaired by Dr. Abid Hussain on September 14, 2004.
    Shri T.S.R Subramanium and Shri Surendra Singh were the other prominent speakers.
  • "Empowerment of women in the context of HIV/AIDS challenge" chaired by Dr. Abid Hussain on November 26, 2004.
    Other participants included Baroness M. Jay, former UK Health Secretary, Dr. Ashok Alexander, Director Bill Gates
    Foundation, Dr. Singhvi and Ms. Nafisa Ali.
  • "Situation in Nepal" chaired by Shri I.K. Gujral on February 16, 2005. Other speakers included Dr. P.C. Alexander, Shri
    P.K. Kaul and Dr. Abid Hussain among many others.
  • Interdependence, Economic Integration & Regional Security chaired by Shri I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India.
  • "The Nepal Bhutan Refugee Issue and Implication for India", chaired by Mr Salman Haider, former Foreign Secretary.
  • Mr.H.C.Pant, Co Secretary and GM (Legal), BSNL, New Delhi discussed the topic “Protection of Consumers’ Interest” in
    context of telecommunication services provided by BSNL.
  • Dr. Avtar Singh, Ex- Reader in law, Lucknow University and former Visiting Professor, IIM,Lucknow discussed “what is
    breach of contract and how the damages are measured’.
  • Mr.Rakesh Choubey, Microsoft Technical Specialist, Ingram Solutions Pvt.Ltd discussed about the newly arrived products
    of Microsoft. He also gave information about utility of these products for business environment.
  • Mr.Amitabh Narayan, Software Engineer, Logic Solutions Pvt.ltd, specifically discussed about the accounting software and
    dealt with practical approach to use its advance features in financial accounting.
  • Mr.Dhiraj Beri, National Sales Manager, Sify Technologies Ltd., discussed implementation issues in strategic management
    with focus on service organizations. He highlighted the impediments in the implementation process and the roadblocks
    forced in it. He also discussed the role and clarity of organizational mission in implementation and strategic management
    process.
  • Mr. S C Kapoor, Chief Manager, Corporation Bank, New Delhi spoke on the latest developments especially in the
    technology area of the banking sector. He shared his experience with the students and apprised them about the job
    opportunities and the future growth in the banking sector.
  • Prof. Joseph A Jeyapual, Loyola College, Chennai delivered special lecture on “Health Economics & Management”.
  • Prof. Arindam Banik, IMI delivered guest lecture on “Application of Elasticity” on 9th August 2008.
  • Mr. Rohit Kansal, IAS, PS to Finance Minister-GoI discussed management case study on 30th August 2008.
