FPM Introduction

Established in 1993 IILM Graduate School of Management has devoted itself to quality research, academic excellence and industry interface with the pursuit of giving the nation the best business leaders and entrepreneurs. The institute has a lush green environment with a state of the art infrastructure giving the campus a wonderful environment for experiential learning.

India’s economy and businesses are going through massive change. The old precepts are being tested and the new models and ways of working getting formulated. In this changing scenario, the business education and research needs to push boundaries of current thought and to develop new area of knowledge and understanding. We need business research that is rooted both in the context of India as well as in new developments that affect businesses across the world. FPM candidates will be encouraged to find out what works in the business world and also the new links in interdisciplinary understanding.

The FPM is designed to prepare men and women for careers in research, teaching and consultancy in areas of business and management.

Objective of the Programme

The programme focuses to train and develop top quality teaching, research, and consultancy talent in the area of management.

Structure of the Programme

1. Mandatory course works ( 1 Year)

i. Research Methodology

ii. Qualitative Research Tools and Techniques

iii. Foundations of Macroeconomics

iv. Strategic Management

v. Two Elective courses in the area of specialization

2. Comprehensive Examination – Necessary to clear to progress to stage 2.

3. Formulation, presentation and submission of research proposal – to be presented and approved by the committee to progress and formalizing the process of registration for research.

4. Preparation and submission of thesis and defense.

FPM Eligibility

All applicants for the programme must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.

A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with a minimum of 55 % aggregate marks

OR

A Bachelors Degree in Engineering (4 years) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade point average

OR

Any professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA and CS with a minimum of 55 % aggregate marks.

In addition, all the applicants must have secured a minimum of 55 % marks in all public examinations starting with the secondary level. Work experience in industry or academics may be given due credit in the selection process.

The maximum age for a full time FPM candidate is 35 years.

Work Experience for Executives and Teachers (Executive FPM)

The eligibility criteria described above will apply equally to the experienced corporate executives. The work experience as full-time executive or as management faculty in an organization/institute of repute is considered as the valid experience. For experienced corporate executives, a minimum of 5 years of managerial/executive work experience is required.

Admission Process

Selection Process

For Fellow Program, applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria stated above are required to submit Common Admission Test (CAT) score conducted by IIMs. Alternatively, those who have earned recent GATE, GRE, GMAT with satisfactory scores may also be considered. Likewise, the recent qualified JRF/SRF candidates can also apply in the relevant areas of specialization. Scores of any of these examinations including CAT taken during the period 2016 – 2017, will be considered valid. Corporate applicants (i.e. experienced Corporate Executives/ Business School Teachers) are welcome to apply without CAT/GATE/GRE/GMAT Score. Short-listed applicants, on the basis of their academic record and performance in the examinations mentioned above, will be advised to appear before the Selection Panel for a personal interview for final selection.

Applicants should note that the mere fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for short listing by IILM Graduate School of Management.

Marketing, Finance, Strategic Management, Operations Management, International Business, and Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management.

Course Work

The FPM programme consists of three phases. The first phase of the programme involves Course Work followed by comprehensive examination. The Fellow Research scholars are required to study the courses (duration six months) such as Strategic Management, Qualitative and Quantitative Techniques, and two courses on the area of their specialization. These classes will be held on Saturdays and Sundays.

Besides the mandatory course of 6 months on the above subjects, full time research scholars and students not coming from Management background will be required to take additional courses. Classes for these additional courses will have to be taken along with regular PGDM students. After the Research Scholars qualify in the examination conducted after the Course Work, they enter the second phase which requires formulation, presentation and submission of research proposal. This is to be presented to the Research Committee and on its approval; the process of registration will be completed. The third phase involves pursuing research in the choosen field, submission and defending of the thesis.

Duration of the Programme and Accommodation

The Fellow Research Scholars are expected to complete the program in four years. However, under special circumstances extension of one more year may be granted.

Accommodation can be provided in the Campus on chargeable basis.

Scholarship

For full time fellows of the programme, the institute will offer Rs. 20,000 for first 2 years and Rs. 25,000 thereafter as scholarships per month for the period of 4 years to upto 4 candidates. The candidates will assist faculty members as a Research Associates for 20 hours per week. No tuition fees will be charged during their study at IILM Graduate School of Management.
