Job title : IILM Centre for Family Business Management

A large proportion of India's business landscape is family-owned. The future growth and prosperity of the Indian economy is, therefore, crucially dependent on the continued professionalization and improved operating efficiency of this sector. The management issues of family-owned as well as family-run businesses are in many ways unique and, therefore, require indepth research, both nationally and cross-nationally.

The Centre will focus upon:

1.To promote better appreciation of the special nature of family businesses..

2.To organise rigourous research on family-owned and family-run businesses in India.

3.To develop professional as well as educational programs, specifically tailored to the needs of such businesses, both on-line and off-line.

4.To network with similar Centres in India and abroad to facilitate knowledge sharing on best practices.

5.To offer technical consultancy and advisory support to the family business sector.

Job title : IILM Centre for Rural Business Management

Even though less than 20% of GDP originates in agriculture, 70% of India's population is still dependent on rural economy. However, with increasing semi-urbanisation, rising rural prosperity due to higher agricultural prices, large scale government supported income generating programs, rural income is on the rise. It is increasingly observed that many FMCG companies find rural India to have a greater potential in terms of growth than the traditional metro India. This is also true for many new kinds of services such as mobile telephones.

Most management literature treats economy essentially as an urban paradigm, with rural market essentially as a sub-text. However, as the preceding global recession has shown, the resilience of Indian economy springs from the potential vibrancy of the rural India.

The Centre will focus on:

1.Encourage excellence in research and practice in the domain of rural business management, which include the business mainstream firms do in the non-metro areas.

2.Promote innovations in business practices for successful application in rural and semi-urban India.

3.Develop case studies of successful integration of urban and rural business models cross nationally, with relevance to India.

4.Deliver training programs of different duration to diverse stakeholders.

Job title : IILM Centre for Quality in Higher Education

India can boast of a huge institutional infrastructure to cater to the needs of higher education built during the last century. However one issue is considered critical. Even if the growth in access has increased manifold, there are strong concerns regarding the quality of education that may be imparted in many institutions of higher education. Quality has emerged as a principal policy concern in the debate relating to growth of higher education in India.

The Centre has as its mandate the following:

1.To identify the constraints that inhibit growth and dissemination of quality education across all institutions.
2.To evaluate the policies and procedures as laid down by the regulatory agencies and the possible changes with a sharp focus on qualitative improvements.
3.To bring out a journal on quality in higher education which will provide a forum for constructive public debate encompassing all principal stakeholders.
4.To network with similar institutions, both in India and abroad, to bring about qualitative improvements, both in teaching and research.
